Fall of Cybertron - Sequel to the War for Cybertron

0

Cybertron dying...
High Moon Studios and Activision are at it again, looking to rebound big off the hiccup that was Dark of the Moon, with a highly-anticipated sequel to last year’s mega-success, Transformers: War for Cybertron, with a predictably-named sequel: Fall of Cybertron. And although it isn’t due out until next Fall 2012 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles – at least, for those serious gamers and Transformers fans unwilling to break into Activision Headquarters for an early copy.

Why can we expect sheer greatness from Transformers: Fall of Cybertron? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it’s not on Earth, as every endeavor that has taken place on our (mostly) beloved planet, whether its portrayal in a Transformers video game or (cough, cough) movie, has…rather sucked. Revenge of the Fallen, which took place on Earth, should’ve been one long commercial, in ten minute installments through the year 2009; at least it would have escaped reviews had we not been charged to see it. The game adaptation was equally as bad, if possible, and suggested that maybe humans and Transformers don’t mix. These hints went unheeded, of course, as Dark of the Moon made one long and infuriatingly lucrative crash on the big screen and on our consoles.

War for Cybertron shot onto video game screens everywhere like a work of genius, improving on the game-play of the two previous Transformers’ outings in every way; from the multiplayer mode, to the added quality of personalizing Transformers after you constructed them from scratch. The game control took a much-needed leap into the current generation of consoles, and the planet Cybertron was apparently much more given to variation than the repetitive Earth background scenes in the last games.

So what can we expect from the Autobots and Decepticons in Transformers Fall of Cybertron? The early graphics released in GameInformer are mesmerizing, and the promise of constant improvement from almost titillating; after all, Fall of Cybertron will be a massive success even if it’s no better than War for Cybertron was. The graphics will be even better, with massive weapon upgrades (because let’s face it; the core of any video game is to blow stuff up), a fabulously-armored Optimus Prime, and all the plusses of its predecessor. And since it’s not on Earth, we know it’s going to be good! It’s refreshing to see the Developers finally decide to listen to the fans again; we generally know what we want ☺.
